Is State Farm a good option?

Reddit opinion

Hi guys, I am 20, I have a 627 credit score, and have a few speeding tickets (all paid on time), currently my mom has my car on her insurance but I am trying to move out and she won’t pay for it when I do that, I have about 1,800 left to pay off (plan to have it paid off in 3 months max) and need to start looking at car insurance, all the advice is to shop around which I’ve done but so far State Farm seems to be my best option, is there anything I should look out for with State Farm?

Are they a decent insurance company? Is there any negatives to state farm I should be aware of? I got a quote for like 300$ but currently my insurance (according to my mom) is like 600$ so that’s why I’m asking about it, are they gonna like raise the rate a lot after 6 months or something? I am completely new to car insurance stuff and have no clue what I’m doing but I’m trying to be an adult

Auto non-renewal

I’ll try to go through this pretty rapid-fire. The questions at the end are – should I even bother asking my agent about this? And am I likely to wind up with a horrible rate from another carrier?Decent income, excellent credit, live in a pretty safe suburb in the southeast (mid-sized city, not Florida).

I’m mid 50s, 1 speeding tx in 2020, no claims, wife mid-50s,perfect expect for one recent parking lot claim (held 50% at fault, minor bumper damage), older son living with us is 25, no tx, last claim was in 2017, younger son living with us is 24, no tx, last claim was April 2022, 100% at fault minor rear end collision.I also have homeowners, valuables coverage, and a $1MM umbrella with them. No claims against any of these policies.

Everything’s on auto draft and paid on time.Been with State Farm almost 3 years. They sent me notice of non-renewal of auto insurance citing the incidents with wife and younger son “Driving record/dates of incidents.”My instinct is to shop it all with an independent agent and walk away from State Farm. Should I talk to my SF agent? And how likely am I to end up with a horrible rate from another carrier?

Why is statefarm so much cheaper than all the other auto insurance providers? Is it a trick?

So, I just hit 30 and I’ve been with Geico for about 4 years, because I know for a fact geico is way cheaper for young guys than almost every other provider.

Well, right now I’m paying about 780 for really stellar coverage 300/300/50 with 300,000 in underinsured/uninsured motorist coverage. Essentially I am very well protected and want to keep it that way.

Well, since my renewal is coming up and I’m curious I ran quotes with absolutely everyone I could think of and they were all slightly more expensive or maybe saved me 20 bucks which doesn’t seem worth the hassle.

Yet I run a quote with statefarm, same coverages and they will do it for 580, which is obviously a significant savings. Now I’ve heard some places “trap” you by giving you a really low rate and then jacking it up later, is that whats going on? Why are they willing to do this for 200 less than everyone else, am I in their target demographic they are really pushing to get (just turned 30 males)?
